Cardinus Risk Management specialises in ergonomics, property, fleet and environmental risk software and on-site solutions.

UK and international organisations work with Cardinus to reduce work-related discomfort, minimise accidents and injury, increase employee productivity and comply with complex legislation.

For Andy Hawkes, CEO of Cardinus, a corporate partnership with IIRSM is important as it provides the Cardinus team with professional knowledge and networking opportunities and gives the organisation added visibility in the sector.

Cardinus has been the headline sponsor of the IIRSM Risk Excellence Awards for several years. It also offers training courses which have been approved by IIRSM and has several IIRSM Members and Associate Members, who are able to access discounted resources and training opportunities. Andy says:

“There are benefits to the partnership from a company marketing perspective, providing us with added visibility and kudos for our projects. It is also important for us to have access to like-minded people in the risk, health and safety community and IIRSM opens up access to knowledge through its webinars, resources and networks.

“By meeting people, we are able to enhance our business and make new deals. As well as looking at it from a return-on-investment perspective, we believe it is important that our staff are affiliated with an august body and can also access high-quality information available in The Sentinel and on the Member Resource Hub.

Andy views the Risk Excellence Awards as a key part of the partnership with IIRSM. “I think people should be shouting from the rooftops about the great things that the profession does,” he explains. “As well as giving people the enjoyment and pride that come from winning an award, the Risk Excellence Awards also help to get positive messages out against the perception of health and safety as a negative part of business, preventing people from doing things. Actually, by improving our businesses so that they are safer and more professional, we can become more entrepreneurial. If individuals and organisations can promote what they do well, others will follow.”

In recent years, Cardinus has adapted its business to react to a quickly changing world. Its global ergonomics solution, comprising a guide to ergonomics regulation and obligations, e-learning courses and templates, resources and webinars, allowed organisations to deliver the help their employees needed to work comfortably and safely from their homes in the wake of the Covid pandemic. Andy explains: “Very quickly we saw our journey accelerate as our proposition took off globally.”

Cardinus has also helped property owners understand regulations introduced in the wake of the Grenfell fire disaster and offers property risk management software, fire risk assessments, health and safety assessments and audits.

Security is another area of focus for Cardinus, with current activity developing alongside the Protect Duty, known as ‘Martyn’s Law’, as the UK’s resilience to terrorism is stepped up. “Our online and on-site solutions are evolving across a broad spectrum of areas. We are able to support our customers to meet the needs of their workforces in multiple ways, and working in partnership with IIRSM helps us to do that even better,” says Andy.
