IIRSM has formally signed the Armed Forces Covenant, reaffirming its commitment to supporting members of the Armed Forces community and recognising the contribution that Service personnel, veterans and military families make.
By signing the Covenant, IIRSM commits to upholding its core principles: that no member of the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage, and that special consideration may be appropriate in certain circumstances, particularly for those who are injured or bereaved.
As a professional body dedicated to advancing risk and safety management across sectors, IIRSM recognises the significant skills, experience and leadership that individuals from the Armed Forces community bring to organisations and the wider economy. We advocate for the value of military experience, with Service leavers and veterans possessing transferable skills ideally suited for risk and safety careers.
IIRSM has also received the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Bronze award, which encourages employers to actively demonstrate support for serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families, while inspiring others to do the same.
Jonathan Biney, Trustee at IIRSM, said: “We are extremely proud to be signing the Armed Forces Covenant and to be formalising IIRSM’s commitment to the Armed Forces community. This is about recognising the outstanding contribution made by serving personnel, veterans and their families, and about supporting the vital work led by the Defence Relationship Management team.
“Having previously led an Armed Forces Covenant signing in a previous role, I have seen first-hand the positive impact it can have. I’m delighted that IIRSM has taken this step.”
The Institute will also mark Armed Forces Day and Reserve Forces Day, helping to raise awareness of the contribution made by the Armed Forces community.
Phillip Pearson, Chief Executive of IIRSM, said: "Our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant aligns closely with IIRSM’s strategy and we have long-standing relationships with key supporters across the defence industry, many of whom have worked alongside IIRSM for years to advance standards in risk and safety management.”
The Armed Forces Covenant is a living document, allowing organisations to build on their commitments over time.
