Jonathan Biney

Jonathan Biney is an experienced Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) professional with over 15 years of expertise spanning Defence, Manufacturing, Utilities, and Engineering. He is a Fellow of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (FIIRSM), recognised for his ability to translate complex risk challenges into practical, people-centred solutions.
Jonathan currently serves as QHSE Lead at Veolia Dewatering & Maintenance Solutions based at Chesterfied, where he leads health, safety, quality, environmental, and risk management. Directly responsible for the safety of circa 100 engineers delivering critical infrastructure services to the UK’s municipal water sector, and mechanical and electrical services to both industrial and commercial organisations. His portfolio includes strategic risk governance, ISO management systems, behavioural safety, change management, and mental health at work.
Prior to this, Jonathan spent over a decade in the British Army in diverse risk, safety and leadership roles, from DSEAR and fire safety management to international risk operations in high-hazard and hostile environments. His career achievements include spearheading cultural change programmes that have delivered significant reductions in workplace accidents and establishing governance frameworks that drive lasting improvements in safety performance.
At IIRSM, Jonathan contributes to shaping global risk and safety strategy, governance, and professional development. His work reflects a deep commitment to increasing global membership, especially among Low-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) where IIRSM operates.
