Overview:

In 2017, a fun night out at a concert in Manchester ended in the most horrific way. The event, which had been attended by some 14,000 men, women and children, was targeted by a lone terrorist and 22 innocent lives were lost that night, with many others changed forever.

One of the 22 people killed in that attack was 29 year old Martyn Hett. His mother, Figen Murray, campaigned tirelessly to introduce new legislation to raise safety and security standards in premises or events attended by large numbers of people.

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (better known as Martyn’s Law) was enacted in April 2025 and will apply to a wide range of premises and event organisers.
