Training Approval Scheme
Training approval brings the value of IIRSM's independent brand and educational standards together with your expertise to form an attractive and competitive partnership for the delivery of quality training.
We consider approving courses from all risk-related disciplines including, but not limited to, business continuity, crisis management, emergency planning, environmental management, health & safety, insurance, operational risk, quality management, security and project risk management.
The process provides confirmation that your training meets the quality standards expected of IIRSM's Training Approval Scheme.
Getting your training approved by us, provides you with the following benefits:
- Confirmation that your training meets the standards of the scheme, providing greater authority and distinction.
- Use of IIRSM’s ‘Approved Course’ logo on promotional, course materials and delegate certificates.
- Your courses listed on the Approved Courses page of IIRSM’s website.
- Jointly badged delegate certificates.
- Discounted IIRSM membership for delegates who attend your approved courses.
- Discounted IIRSM corporate membership and increased profile raising for your organisation, and access to a wealth of benefits for your staff, associates, consultants or trainers.
- Enhances your organisations training courses. Validates the credibility of your courses.
- Enables corporate organisations to raises employee competence and confidence in their job role.
Our training approval process assesses:
- Learning experience
- Technical content
- Facilities (face-to-face training only)
- Trainer/ subject matter expert competence
- Quality
There are four steps to gaining training approval:
STEP 1 - READ THE TRAINING APPROVAL GUIDANCE DOCUMENT AND THE STANDARDS DOCUMENT(S)
These documents fully explain which courses are eligible for the scheme, the assessment process and the conditions you must comply with. The documents are available to download at the bottom of this page.
STEP 2 - COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION
This involves completing the application form and providing us with all of the supporting materials. On receipt, your application will be reviewed by a member of the IIRSM professional development team to ensure we have all of the required information. At this stage, you will also be required to pay the approval fee
STEP 3 - DETAILED REVIEW
In conjunction with the IIRSM professional development team, a suitably qualified assessor will conduct a review of your course and any documentation you have submitted to ensure it meets our assessment critiera.
Step 4 - DECISION NOTIFICATION
You will be notified of the outcome of the detailed review.
The non-refundable application fee operates on a sliding scale depending on the number of courses you are submitting.
Where courses are particularly complex or niche, or if you are seeking approval of more than 20 courses, additional fees may be charged. You will be notified of this after you have submitted your enquiry form.
All fees are subject to VAT for those paying in the UK.
Fees are reviewed annually on 1 July.

Prior to completing your application, please read through the Training Approval Scheme Information and Guidance document and the e-learning and/or face to face standards documents depending on the type of course(s) you will be submitting, all documents can be downloaded below.

IIRSM's Training Approval scheme reviews 3rd party risk related training courses against our Training Approval assessment criteria.
We're looking for IIRSM Members and Fellows to support with the technical aspect of the course review. In particular, we are interested in hearing from you if you have knowledge of:
- Anti-bribery legislation
- Anti money laundering legislation
- Confined space
- Environmental awareness
- Lock-out tag-out
- Forklift safety
- Paedatric first-aid
- Project risk management
- Safeguarding
- Self-contained breathing apparatus
- Security
- Working at height
