Stephen Watson, Director – QSHE/ Operations, Technical Access Services
I am a highly experienced and meticulous, Chartered QSHE and Operations Management professional who is motivated by challenging roles, gaining great satisfaction and self-fulfilment from achieving both practical and personal goals, whilst, never losing sight of continual improvement and the motivational gains that can be achieved along the way.
I started my professional career as a scaffolding labourer in 1992 and quickly developed a passion for managing risks faced by me and my co-workers daily. Following several years attending night school and financial sacrifice, I achieved my NEBOSH Diploma. I was able to use the tools and knowledge gained to make more informed and persuasive interventions regarding risk tolerance and safer working. At the time, I was not recognised as an HSE professional, my motivation and reward were seeing everyone leave site at the end of the day and return home to their families. I have continued this approach throughout my career and take personal accountability for the risk to which anyone for whom I am responsible is exposed.
I was keen to be involved with the ERLN as it is a unique initiative and opportunity to which I feel I could both add value and develop through the experience.
I hope the network will become a platform to share, encourage, promote, and develop all members and subsequently improve how risk is managed in the wider community.
I feel privileged to be part of the first ERLN, I am sure it will prove to be a success and we can develop the blueprint for future groups.
