IIRSM Participate in the EURO 2015 Conference

The Institute’s Technical and Research Manager, Dr Shahzeb Malik, recently represented the Institute by participating and presenting his research work at the 27th European Conference on Operational Research (EURO 2015) 12 – 15 July at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. The conference was observed as the premier European conference of the year so far with around 2500 delegates participated from all over the world. It was organised by the Operational Research Society (the OR Society), an International learned society in the field of OR based in Birmingham, UK. The conference mainly provided a platform for researchers, academics, practitioners, and students interested in any branch of Operations Research and Management Sciences including mathematical modelling, advanced analytical methods/tools to help with better decision-making.

In his presentation, Dr Malik outlined his views on the perception of risk management among safety professionals in UK commercial organisations. The presentation covered the qualitative results gathered from his latest research work carried out with Barry Holt, Director of Policy and Research at IIRSM, to understand and gather views from various safety professionals about how risk management is perceived at different levels of health and safety within these selected organisations. Dr Malik attended several other sessions (including keynote and tutorials) and participated in various discussion sessions.

In addition, Dr Malik was invited by the conference organisers to provide mentoring to PhD researchers to help them with practice and developmental issues.

We are pleased to have this opportunity to present our research findings at such a high-profile event and raise the profile of IIRSM within the academic and business communities.
