IIRSM’s Mike Gillespie recognised as top four influencer in Cyber Security UK

Mike Gillespie, IIRSM Specialist Advisor and senior information security expert, has been recognised as one of the top four people of influence within the Cyber Security industry in the UK after extensive consultation by a panel of judges across the Cyber Security industry.
IFSEC Global recently revealed their list of top 10 influencers in the security manufacturers/service providers category across the security and fire sectors, as part of their Top 50 influencers in security & fire 2017: cybersecurity. Gillespie took the number four spot for Cyber Security in the UK and internationally.
On hearing about the ranking, Gillespie says “It’s very rewarding to be recognised by IFSEC Global for my contributions to the UK Cyber Security Industry. I look forward to continue being an advocate for the security community and working alongside UK businesses, charities, Government and other public sector bodies.”
The recent ransomware ‘WannaCry’ & ‘Petya’ attacks have highlighted the importance of basic and ongoing cyber security precautions required by businesses throughout the world.
Gillespie continues, “The threat landscape changes fast, as the last few weeks have demonstrated. Make sure all staff, including senior management are thoroughly trained and enabled to question emails, files or activities they feel are counter to organisational security.”
Mike is an experienced, senior information security practitioner of many years’ standing as is well versed in the threat to organisational information assets. Mike serves as the cyber spokesperson for the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management.
He is also widely engaged across the cyber security industry in the UK. As a subject matter expert Mike is called upon regularly to speak at events and contribute editorial, including for the BBC and The Sunday Times as well as regular industry media. He is also part of the editorial board for Professional Security Magazine.
