REALITY HITS

2018 has served up a wealth of content in both traditional and emerging risks but the dynamism does not stop there.  Innovation is reshaping likelihood and severity, creating opportunities for organisations to reduce and redefine risk within their operations, industries, and territories.  It can be too easy in exciting times to get swept away by waves of change, but the reality is that employee deaths, workplace illnesses, accidents and injuries remain a significant feature, despite the wealth of new technology and innovation available today.  In fact, some factors, such as mental health, are increasing significantly.

Where does this leave risk and safety professionals today?

SPEAKER

John Huckstepp - Owner, A Blank Canvas

John is a Specialist Fellow of the IIRSM and a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.  His background includes rail, gas, and chemicals, although in recent years, he has worked with Central Government, higher education and the NHS on performance, capability and risk.  His career has included the transformation of a £60m turnover business, the single point of contact following a double fatality, and advising on international culture.  John has spoken at the Institution of Chemical Engineers ‘Hazards’ Conference, has hosted a recent IIRSM webinar on leadership and risk, presented at the IOSH National Conference, and is a regular presenter and guest speaker at a variety of corporate conferences and training events.

For the last five years, John has been studying risk and resilience and has recently been working on the development of the IIIRSM Futureproof programme.
