There are two main motivators that influenced IIRSM to prepare this compilation of case studies in health and safety management. First of all, there is our commitment to taking a lead in educating organisations and practitioners on how we can create a culture of health and safety. Second, it has always been our strongly held view that no individual or culture has all the answers to our health and safety problems and that there are few problems which have not been solved somewhere, at some time.
By inviting organisations with an acknowledged commitment to high standards of health and safety management to contribute to this publication we are providing an opportunity for other organisations to learn that good health and safety standards and successful business are not mutually exclusive. The organisations that accepted our invitation are all leaders in their field and represent a good cross-section of industry; from retail to petrochemical and from utilities to laboratories.
