Q. How many members does the IIRSM have?

FAQs for new applicants
Q. Why should I join IIRSM?
A. IIRSM membership has many benefits for health and safety practitioners, full details of which are on the Membership Benefits page.
Q. If I don’t have the qualifications listed in your brochure or on this website can I still apply?
A. Yes, if you feel you have relevant qualifications and experience you may still apply. Your application will be assessed by the Membership Committee and you will be informed of which level of membership is most appropriate. Please note that this may delay the processing of your application, please see the Apply for Membership Process page.
Q. I already participate in CPD, is it compulsory for me follow the IIRSM CPD Scheme?
A. No, the IIRSM CPD Scheme is voluntary; further details on this scheme can be found on the IIRSM CDP Scheme page.
Q. What qualifications does the IIRSM recognise?
A. The IIRSM recognises training courses from a wide range of providers including the British Safety Council, NEBOSH and FE and HE institutions. Further details of courses we recognise is on the Membership Levels page.
Q. Can I join as a Fellow?
A. Yes under the new Like for Like Scheme that was launched in March 2010, more information on Fellowship can be found on the Membership Levels page.
Q. How long will it take to process my application?
A. This usually takes approximately four weeks in total from the day your application is received to receiving your New Member Documents; International applicants, the delivery of your document will take slightly longer. For more detailed information please see the Apply for Membership Process page
Q. What is included in my New Member Documents?
A. Your New Member Documents include a Receipt of Payment, Membership Card, Membership Certificate and the current months HSW Magazine and IIRSM Newsletter. There is a possibility that you will receive the following months HSW Magazine and IIRSM Newsletter before your New Member Documents, this is due to internal procedures at IIRSM.
Q. I am already a member of another health and safety professional body, so why should I join IIRSM?
A. Many of our members have membership of more than one organisation, this demonstrates that they value the benefits that both organisations provide. Ultimately, this will be a personal choice.
Q. How much does membership cost?
A. Our current fees are listed on the How to Join page.
Q. Can I participate in Gift Aid?
A. Yes if you are a UK Tax payer and your membership payment has been made by you; if you are claiming the payment back from your company then you are not able to participate.
Q. What payment methods can I use when paying for or renewing my membership?
A. You can pay your membership fees using either Debit or Credit Card by logging in to the Members section (My Profile). We also accept Cheque payments, Bankers drafts, Direct Debits (renewal payments only) and Bank Transfer. For details of our bank account to pay by bank transfer please e-mail info@iirsm.org
FAQs for existing members
Q. How can I upgrade to either Fellow or Specialist Fellow?
A. You must have been either a Full or Specialist Member for 5 consecutive years to apply for Fellowship, unless you apply under the Like for Like Scheme; more information on Fellowship can be found on the Membership Levels page. Please note that you are not able to apply for a Fellowship upgrade online.
Q. I am already a member but I want to upgrade. What do I have to do and how much do I have to pay?
A. To upgrade your membership complete an application form (ticking the box for an upgrade) and attach copies of any qualifications met since your original application; if none of your contact details have changed simply write your name on the form and sign it. There is a non-refundable processing fee of £28.00 which you must send with the application. Log in to the Members Section (My Profile) for more information on Upgrades.
Q. I am already a member but I want to Transfer from the Health and Safety Practitioner Stream to the Specialist Stream (or vice versa). What do I have to do and how much do I have to pay?
A. To transfer your membership complete an application form (ticking the box for an transfer) and attach copies of any qualifications met since your original application; if none of your contact details have changed simply write your name on the form and sign it. There is a non-refundable processing fee of £28.00 which you must send with the application. Log in to the Members Section (My Profile) for more information on Transfers.

Q. What is included in my Upgrade Documents?
A. Your Upgrade documents will include a Receipt of Payment, Membership Card and Membership Certificate.
Q. Can I Upgrade/Transfer at the same time as my Renewal?
A. If you decide to Upgrade or Transfer online, you can also pay your renewal online in two separate transactions. If you decide to send your Upgrade or Transfer application to the office, be sure to include the renewal fee as well; when paying by credit card the payment will be processed as two separate transactions.
Q. If my membership has cancelled, can I reinstate it?
A. If your membership has cancelled it is possible to reinstate it by paying your arrears; this payment will be back dated to your renewal date. Please note you may be due for renewal again fairly soon. However, if you wish you can decide to re-join as a new member, but you will be required to make payment for the Registration Fee again. Contact the Membership Team for more information.

Q. How long will it take to receive my Receipt of Payment and New Membership Card?
A. Once your renewal payment has been processed a Receipt of Payment and Membership Card will be sent out to you within 14 working days; International applicants, the delivery of your document will take slightly longer. However if you require a Receipt of Payment urgently simply contact the office and we will arrange this for you.
Q. Can I participate in Gift Aid?
A. Yes if you are a UK Tax payer and your membership payment has been made by you; if you are claiming the payment back from your company then you are not able to participate. Q. Do I have to pay the non-refundable registration fee when renewing my membership?
A. No, it is only payable with a new membership or you decide to re-join.

Members Login Section
Q. How do I login?
A. Select the Members Login and enter your User Name and Password. Your User Name will be your preferred email address, unless you are logging in for the first time where you will need to use your Membership Number.
Q. How do I obtain my Username and Password?
A. Your initial User Name will be your Membership Number, this will change to your preferred email address after your initial login; your Password will be sent from the IIRSM office to your preferred membership document mailing address, which you can change once you have logged in.
Q. Why can I not login?
A. If this is your first login you must use your Membership Number as the User Name and the Password that was sent to you from the IIRSM Offices, this can be changed once you have successfully logged in.
If you have previously logged in using your Membership Number as the User Name, you must now use your preferred email address as the User Name and your current Password.
If you are still unable to log in, simply contact the IIRSM office and we will assist you further.
Q. I have forgotten my Password?
A. You can select the option Forgotten your Password in the sign in area or simply contact the IIRSM office and we will arrange for a Password re-set. Your new password will then be sent to you, which you are required to change when you login successfully.
Q. How do I change my Password?
A. Log in to the website and open the Members Section (My Profile), simply click on the button displaying Update and scroll to the button on the page; here you will find the option to change your password.
