BENEFITS IN DETAIL
Career and Professional Development
Online CPD Scheme – This voluntary scheme is easy to use and ticks all the boxes to help with your continuing professional development. Members who successfully complete it will gain an additional set of designatory letters in recognition of this: RSP (Recognised Safety Professional). Although voluntary for members, the online CPD scheme will become the career pathway to achieving Fellowship of IIRSM.
Training discounts through trusted partnerships – IIRSM negotiates discount opportunities on a variety of training courses ranging from one to two day courses through to post graduate ones. We are able to do this through our commitment to developing partnerships in health and safety and related industries. Industry recognised designatory letters – Displaying your IIRSM designatory letters on your business cards and stationary instantly sends the right message to your colleagues and prospective employers that you are a competent and ethical practitioner, part of a worldwide community of health and safety professionals. If you are joining at a level that doesn't award designatory letters, as you gain experience and new qualifications, perhaps opting to complete the CPD Scheme at a later stage, you will be able to upgrade your membership and set yourself apart to increase your potential for career promotion and growth.
Student Initiatives – IIRSM is conscious of the fact that to continue driving the health and safety industry forward we need to focus on students entering the profession and help the health and safety professionals of tomorrow today. In light of this IIRSM has launched an ongoing campaign “Sponsor a Student”, which will allow those students who cannot afford membership of a professional body the opportunity to join. This campaign hinges on the support of companies, members and other professionals who share the vision of IIRSM in professionalising the profession by providing all the tools and information to new professionals right from the start. Networking
Regional Branches (UK & International) – IIRSM, as a collective membership body of individuals, promotes networking through Regional Branches whether they are in the UK or other countries. By setting up, or joining, a Regional Branch in your area, or country, you will be maximising the potential for communication of local knowledge and information sharing. Branches serve as a platform for health and safety professionals, and specialists alike, to meet on a regular basis to discuss the issues relevant to them which have impact on their daily lives, professionally, locally and regionally. Make a difference by setting up, or joining, a Regional Branch.
Member events (Annual Conference, House of Lords luncheon etc) – IIRSM holds an annual conference with its magazine partner HSW (Health and Safety at Work) Magazine towards the end of each calendar year. This key event features top speakers from industry and governmental departments as well as up-to-date case studies and legislative changes. IIRSM members’ receive a discount on the conference delegate rate. Other networking events include the House of Lords luncheon and members receptions at regional events.
Information Resources
IIRSM Newsletter (monthly) – This is the members' Newsletter and we mail it out to all members around the globe along with a copy of HSW magazine (see below). The IIRSM Newsletter is packed with features, current industry news from the UK and internationally, members' articles, real questions and answers from our Technical Helpline and news about IIRSM and its activities. We encourage members to get involved through publishing articles, interviews, and case studies.
Health and Safety at Work (HSW) Magazine (monthly) – Published by trusted partners, LexisNexis, the HSW Magazine is the official magazine of IIRSM. Each month it provides incisive news reports and insights into topical occupational health and safety issues. HSW keeps you on the right side of the law and ensures your workers are not exposed to unnecessary risks while maintaining high productivity.
Health and Safety Technical Helpline – This invaluable service, provided by trusted partners Sypol Ltd, is free 24 hour helpline available for all members of IIRSM. Your enquiry will be dealt with by a team of qualified health and safety professionals, who offer detailed and impartial advice. Their expertise is supported by national and international databases. You can call, fax or e-mail with any health and safety queries and be assured of a prompt response. You can use this neutral and independent source to check the interpretation of health, safety and environmental law, saving time and helping to avoid injuries and ill-health.
Legal helpline (UK law) - All IIRSM members who are resident in the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man can obtain confidential free legal advice by telephone. This service is available 24 hours a day for business or personal legal problems. Service provided by Legal Assistance Direct.
HSW Website (Free subscription to IIRSM members) - Access to www.healthandsafetyatwork.com is completely free of charge with individual membership of IIRSM. It includes the entire content of the HSW magazine, an online archive to research previous articles, and a community section which enables you to post particular problems and get answers from your peers or add your opinion to the latest health and safety debate.
Publications Discounts – IIRSM negotiates discounts on various publications. These include handbooks, journals and other industry related literature.
Discounted Events - Through trusted partners IIRSM offers members a wide variety of discounted events and, where available, free events throughout the year.
Accreditation Scheme – IIRSM's new Training Accreditation Scheme offers accreditation of training centres, courses, and trainers. This is another way in which IIRSM works towards professionalising the profession – global recognition of the IIRSM Accreditation Scheme enhances the status of your own membership. As IIRSM's profile continues to be enhanced through international providers of training, so will the opportunity for our members to be associated with the top in the field of health and safety.
