Joint SHEF(s) / IIRSM Annual Meeting - January 2008

IIRSM Chief Executive addresses joint SHEF(S) / IIRSM annual meeting

It was a busy time for health
and safety professionals in Scotland in November - the Safety, Health and Environmental Forum (Scotland) held two very special events – the SHEF(S) / IIRSM – joint annual meeting and SHEF(S) 70th Anniversary Gala Dinner.

The annual joint meeting was addressed by Julie Silvester, Chief Executive of IIRSM, and Stewart Campbell, Director of Health and Safety Executive, (Scotland). Julie spoke on “the business of health and safety”, whilst Stewart highlighted some key points from the Chief Inspector of Factories’ annual report in 1937!

Following this, on Saturday 10th November 2007, a Gala Dinner celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the SHEF(S) at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Glasgow.

This event was attended by dignitaries representing the whole cross section of Industry, Commerce & Government and included The Right Honourable The Lord Cullen of Whitekirk and Stewart Campbell, Director of the Health and Safety Executive (Scotland) as well as Senior Managers in safety from Scotland and beyond. The Chief Officer of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, Brian Sweeney, provided the after dinner speech. The evening was a great success, with over 120 guests enjoying a delicious meal and top class entertainment. Funds raised at the event will be utilised to raise awareness of Health and Safety issues & provide support to identifying suitable solutions.

SHEF(S) is the oldest employer’s health and safety forum in Scotland, and is affiliated to the Scottish Chamber of Safety, and Safety Groups UK. Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at Reid Kerr College in Paisley.
