Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

Responsible for enforcing health and safety law in the UK. Accidents, ill health at work in England and Wales, which are reportable under RIDDOR, should now be reported to the Incident Contact Centre – see for details.

The HSE also offers advice on occupational health through EMAS (Employment Medical Advisory Service) – which can be contacted through local HSE Area Offices. Regional Offices also are part of a network of National Interest Groups (NIGs), which provide specific health and safety advice for a wide range of industries. For premises where health and safety law is enforced by Local Authorities – such as offices and warehouses – accidents should be reported to the new to the Incident Contact Centre – see for details.
