Designatory
Letters
If you join the IIRSM Health and Safety Practitioner Stream as a Member (MIIRSM) or Associate (AIIRSM),
or are accepted as a Fellow (FIIRSM), you will be able to use
the appropriate designatory letters after your name - a mark of
full professional status.
If you join the IIRSM Specialist Stream as a Specialist Member
you will be able to use the designatory letters SIIRSM after
your name - a mark of your status as a professional qualified in
a health and safety related profession.
Designatory letters enhance your reputation within the industry and
shows the professional standard you have reached. Your
designatory letters can be used on all of your stationery, such
as: your business cards, letters and email signatures.
Information
Service
All members of IIRSM have free access to an extensive Safety Information
Service. Your enquiry will be dealt with
by a team of qualified health and safety professionals, who
offer detailed and impartial advice. Their expertise is
supported by national and international databases. You can ring, fax or e-mail
with any queries and receive a fast response.
You can use this
neutral and independent source to check the interpretation of
health, safety and environmental law, saving time and helping
avoid injuries and ill-health.
IIRSM Newsletter
The IIRSM Newsletter is published each month and helps to keep
members up to date with our activities and with new developments
in health and safety throughout the UK and Overseas. The
layout of the Newsletter has been designed so that it is clear
and easy to read and refer back to.`
As well as information about the latest health and safety news,
developments, legislation and court cases, the Newsletter is
filled with views from our members.
We welcome contributions for the Newsletter, such as: articles,
case studies, profiles, letters or ideas from our members.
Health and Safety at Work Magazine (HSW)
Members also receive their own copy of Health and Safety at Work
(HSW), which is designed for busy professionals. Every
month, the magazine carries news on the latest regulatory
developments and the 'story behind the story' on prosecutions by
enforcing authorities, pinpointing the lessons for business.
Features explain how to comply with new legislation, and best
practice case studies provide inside knowledge of how innovative
organisations have cut accident rates, or reduced the cost of
sickness absence. HSW provides information critical to the
smooth and safe running of any organisation and helps to keep
you up to date with health and safety issues.
Legal
advice (UK only)
All IIRSM members who are resident in the UK, Channel Islands
and Isle of Man can obtain confidential free legal advice by telephone.
This service is available 24 hours a day for personal or business
legal problems.
Insignia
The Institute offers a range of insignia products for it's
members to choose from. It includes extra copies of your official
Certificate of Membership or personal Membership Identity Card.
However, the range of products is currently being reviewed
to ensure we are providing what our members want.

Individual Membership...
The IIRSM is an organisation for individuals. If for any reason you change job your membership of
the IIRSM moves with you.
An Official Certificate of Membership - a new look from
September 2007
All new members of the Institute receive a
full-colour certificate displaying your full name, grade of
membership, issue date of the certificate and your membership
number. Each certificate is signed by the current Chairman
of the Board of Governors. Replacement certificates are
available for an administrative fee of £10.00 per certificate (or
£12.00 for the certificate and card as a pair)..

A Personal Membership Card - a new look
from September 2007
All members receive a personal membership card on
joining and then at each renewal date. The card displays
your full name, designatory letters (if any), your membership
level, your membership number and the month in which the card
expires. Replacement cards are available for an
administrative fee of £5.00 per card (or £12.00 for the card and
certificate as a pair).
